About us

Brooke works with communities across the world to give every working horse, donkey and mule a richer and more rewarding life.

Over 90 years transforming the lives of working animals

From our humble beginnings as a hospital for ex-warhorses in 1934 to becoming an international animal welfare charity, we’ve been working tirelessly to improve the lives of working horses, donkeys and mules and the people whose lives and livelihoods depend on them, for over 90 years.

Brooke is built on the belief that all animals deserve dignity, respect and compassion. Together, we're creating a kinder, more compassionate world where animals, people and the environment all support each other.

Our approach focuses on long‑term, sustainable change:

What we do

From animal welfare and health to international research, education and community partnerships - see how Brooke makes an impact across the globe.

"From brick kilns in Pakistan, pilgrimages in India, rural communities in northern Senegal, bustling towns in Ethiopia, mountain passes in Nicaragua, and donkey care clubs in Kenyan schools, animals and people benefit from our innovative work. Only Brooke does this work in the remote regions where alternative animal health services are either non-existent or still being developed."
